Roof & Floor Truss Designer-Casper
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary job duties an responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Collaborate with a team of multi-facility designers, design managers, plant general managers, and sales staff to develop truss designs for single-family, multi-family, agricultural, and commercial buildings.
- Communicate effectively with sales group, lumber yards, builders, architects, engineers, and homeowners.
- Utilize MiTek® Structure with Integrated Truss Design software.
- Read and interpret conceptual, architectural, and structural plans.
- Create detailed roof and floor truss placement layouts.
- Ensure all truss designs are accurate, optimized, and comply with company standards, local standards, and design criteria.
- Verify that the truss design and USP/Simpson® hardware are compatible.
- Demonstrate proficiency in truss component, framing, and construction practices.
- Generate accurate truss quotes for the sales team.
- Utilize opportunities to cross-train in EWP design and supply estimates.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Truss Designer must possess:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience using MiTek® Design Software with a solid portfolio showcasing successful truss designs.
- SBCA™ Truss Technician certification or willingness to complete SBCA™ Truss Technician certifications, and other Bloedorns sponsored-training when required.
- Exceptional attention to detail, precision, understanding of three-dimensional space, problem solving, and a meticulous eye for design aesthetics.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, possessing a deep understanding of structural components, load-bearing considerations, and knowledge of floor and roof truss design processes.
- Strong math skills including fractions, geometry, and basic trigonometry with the ability to calculate tributary loads, concentrated loads, and load path transfer through a building.
- Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with design teams and clients to ensure clarity and satisfaction throughout the design process.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects with tight deadlines while upholding quality standards.
- General knowledge of the construction industry.
- Hands-on work experience, or a college degree in related fields is a plus but not required.
- Ability to operate a computer and current software.
- Complete and pass a pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background screen.
- Ability to speak, write and communicate effectively in the English language.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Truss Designers work:
- Primarily in an indoor office setting with a computer.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Regularly use hands, reach with arms and hands, talk, and hear.
- Occasionally in the manufacturing plant environment.
- Exposed to increased noise, dust, mechanical parts, equipment, forklifts, hazardous chemicals, sharp objects, and vibration levels.
- Must be able to occasionally lift or move objects up to 100 pounds.
- Occasionally at on-site job locations.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Exposed to construction site hazards.
JOB LOCATION: Casper, Wyoming. Candidates must in live in, or relocate to, Casper, Wyoming. This is not a remote position.
